k. leimer | degraded certainties

Extensively manipulated audio files, layered elements combined from multiple versions of shared sources, edited, reshaped envelopes and extended periods of dust collecting resulted in six pieces of minimalist / process music. With contributions from Gregory Taylor and Taylor Deupree.

The material was generated via the layering of arbitrarily ordered tone clusters and by using signal reprocessing as the principal method by which to determine the music’s timbre and form. Such production details are interesting but convey little, however, of how beautiful the six soundscapes are that Leimer and company have created. Strings and electronics swim leisurely in deep electro-acoustic seas, and ethereal, elegiac, tranquil, peaceful, and placid are just some of the words that might spring to mind as you listen to the recording’s time-suspending settings.

— Textura

The quality of the recording and the sense of space are quite remarkable. Crackling sounds, dripping noises, seem to emanate from all around. Degraded Certainties is music to immerse and lose oneself in, to fully revel in the letting go.

— Electroambient Space

Whenever Leimer sets his thoughts to music, the true topic is the passage of time. From obscure undulating soundscapes to ringing metallic timbres this album is ever the interplay of contrasts. As much as Leimer covers new material from one release to the next, his voice is surprisingly consistent – not only in the structure and integrity but also in the elegant and cerebral tranquility of each album. Leimer thinks of his audience as more than mindless consumers of data. He is always out ahead of us - showing us his future vision of Ambient Music.
