k. leimer | land of look behind | remastered

play : Confusion in Belief (edit)

a persistent favorite since its original release in 1982, Land of Look Behind has been remastered by Greg Davis, revealing new detail and depth in the studio and field recordings of this almost-soundtrack for the Alan Greenberg film of the funeral of Bob Marley. Robert Palmer wrote in the New York Times that “Mr. Greenberg’s cinematographer was Jorg Schmidt-Reitwein, a longtime associate of Werner Herzog, and his eye for color and detail and use of a pleasantly grainy film stock give "Land of Look Behind" its distinctive appearance and texture. K. Leimer’s electronic background music contributes some drama and a sense of movement. But the film is basically static.” Perhaps he liked the music more than the film itself. Featuring contributions by Steve Fisk, Kevin Hodges and David and James Keller.

ang mo faux | improvisations

play : choppa (edit)

improvisations is the premiere recording by ang mo faux, a singapore-based trio. the two pieces presented here are essentially sonic explorations of software environments for live signal processing. the music of improvisations results from the practice of musical interdependence and the willingness of individual artists to cede individual control in favor of mutual influence.

marc barreca | tremble
marc barreca | tremble

play : indore (edit)

Comprised of nine settings that exhibit a nearly perpetual sense of instability, marc barreca's tremble shudders and grinds and shifts through aural spaces that collapse from highly detailed sound fields into massive densities, or expand into sheer vapor. like subterrane before it, tremble is comprised of multiple electronic and acoustic sources. but unlike the studied restraint of subterrane, the music here often reaches thresholds of a lush beauty, unexpectedly escaping from a diversity of pitches and timbres to become a solid, seemingly stable orbit of pure sound.
